How To Create Your Ideal Yoga Retreat Listing

Writing the ideal yoga listing requires a little time and thought which will certainly pay dividends in the long run. Here’s a collection of ideas from us to help with this important and sometimes under-resourced task.

1. Who, Where and What:

People like to interact with real people. It certainly doesn’t need to be a complete history, but let your potential retreat participants know the key things about you and how you’ve come to be running a yoga retreat. Where are you as a business? Not location wise but from a marketing perspective the positioning of your business. How will your customers perceive your retreat and how would you describe it? Honesty here is the only way. Are you really a luxury retreat? How intimate is the experience you want to create? Does the retreat afford much privacy, if sought? 2. Compelling Writing:

Your listing is your unique sales vehicle. Compelling writing means writing concisely, clearly and accurately. Keep it simple and don’t write more than what’s necessary. Visitors to your retreat profile will scan the headline first, look at the first picture and only then read in more detail if you’ve captured their attention. Avoid repeating yourself and less is often more (appealing). Use the writing style you’re comfortable with- formal or informal, but get someone you know to check whether it reflects the personality of the retreat.

 

3. Attention Grabbing Photos:

“A picture paints a thousand words”, which makes a bad picture say 1000 bad things about you! The photos you select to portray your retreat are extremely important. Hire a professional or get hold of the best available camera to ensure the visual representation of your retreat is accurate and grabs the attention of visitors. If your photos look poor then it could be time for a refurb.

 

 

 

4. Description of the Accommodation:

Most people will spend more time in the living accommodation than any other place, whilst on vacation. Therefore, spend a good amount of time writing about the accommodation and be specific about any differences. Size matters so take a measure and let them know all facilities in the room (aircon, fridge, TV, Internet, balcony/ French doors, etc.).

 

 

5. What can your retreat attendee’s do in their off-time?

The itinerary you provide will allow them to see the retreat timetable. How much free time will they typically get? Think carefully about potential activities or trips possible for just an hour or two, right up to full day or weekend excursions. Research thoroughly transport options and opening times, if applicable and think about providing an excursion booklet in hard and soft copy.

 

 

6. Price

Your price should communicate a lot about you. There are many elements you might want to consider when pricing your retreat, including your costs/ desired return, how much your key competitors charge and how much you reasonably think you’re retreat is worth to attendee’s. The final point is about thinking of all the addition services you do or can provide and putting a value on these provisions. Do you need to include full-board in the price as standard, or should it be an optional extra for guests? Are single rates reasonable? Many people travel as singles and are often penalised unfairly financially for doing so. If you have surplus accommodation on a retreat starting soon then thing about appealing to single travellers as they are the most flexible and immediate of travellers. Every space not filled on the retreat is lost money forever. Therefore, have a clear strategy on the numbers you need to achieve and make sure you provide adequate time to implement any offers or specials to fill the spaces. Make sure however that you’re not penalising existing customers. You should consider offering them additional services or upgrades, to ensure they don’t feel aggrieved for booking early.

 

7. Profile and Photo of Instructors

Although only a small section on the website, the primary reason why someone books the yoga retreat is for yoga! Therefore, take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the customer and list some of your experiences and a picture to individualize the section. Distance relationship building requires a personal touch.

 

8. What style of yoga and what level of experience.
